Students do change their mind so it may be better to for the student to explore the major prior to declaring a specialization.Įdited: In the many years that I have been on CC and followed the UCSD decision thread l have only seen 2 CC posters that were accepted into ME with a specialization. Once the student is admitted as an ME, they then can declare the specialization. Specializations are mainly taking electives focused on a specific area which any ME admitted student can elect to do so there would be no reason to be a direct admit into the preferred specialization and as far as I am aware, no competitive process to declare the specialization. UCSD admits into the University first and then into the major. There are no published stats by major for UCSD that I have ever encountered. Also note: Capped majors require additional pre-req courses and specific GPA to be able to qualify for changing majors. The campus does not admit students on the basis of academic major or choice of UC San Diego undergraduate college. Admission for out-of-state applicants more selective than for residents.
